Why Internal Pre-Sales are a Game Changer

At Local Laundry, our Merchandise-as-a-Service (MaaS) model is designed to be a flexible "machine" that adapts to exactly how an organization wants to run. While we often host pre-sales on our own e-commerce infrastructure, our recent collaboration with Katimavik Youth Services highlights a powerful, high-control alternative: The Internal Pre-Sale.
The Strategy: Organization-Led, Expert-Fulfilled
Katimavik, a leader in Canadian youth volunteerism, wanted to maintain a high-touch, personal relationship with their community. Instead of directing supporters to an external site, they chose to manage the order intake and payment processing entirely in-house.
Here is how we powered their vision behind the scenes:
-
Custom Product Development: Our team collaborated with Katimavik to design a premium Made in Canada hoodie in a unique "Latte" colourway, a modern, neutral tone that resonates with their youth demographic.
-
Engineering the Visuals: Our team produced high-fidelity digital mockups to ensure the end product would be represented correctly for their marketing launch.

-
The Seamless Hand-off: Once Katimavik closed their internal intake, they provided us with a clean list of names, sizes, and addresses.
-
Individual Fulfillment: Once the batch was produced and quality-checked in our facility, we handled the complex logistics of shipping each unit individually to supporters across the country.
Why the "Internal" Model is a Masterstroke for Non-Profits
The Katimavik project proves that you don't have to choose between full control and operational ease. This hybrid approach is ideal for organizations that want to maximize impact:
1. Zero "Choice Paralysis"
By offering a single, high-quality hoodie, Katimavik avoided a common marketing pitfall: giving the customer too many options. This focus drove higher conversion rates and simplified the manufacturing process.
2. Risk-Free Scaling
Because the order was placed with us only after their pre-sale window closed, they blew past their 50-unit minimum (MOQ) with zero upfront inventory cost. They didn't have to guess what sizes to buy; the data told them exactly what was needed.
3. Protecting the Customer Relationship
By hosting the sale on their own platform, Katimavik kept all donor data within their secure systems. This allowed for seamless integration with their own internal tracking and charitable tax receipting processes.
4. Offloading the "Operational Nightmare"
Even with an internal sale, the "nightmare" of packing boxes, printing shipping labels, and managing a warehouse stayed with us. We manage the machine so your team can focus on the mission.
The Result: A Masterclass in Mission-Driven Merch
The final result was a stunning, Made in Canada garment that provided a significant fundraising return for Katimavik. By leveraging our production and fulfillment "machine," they were able to focus entirely on their mission of youth empowerment while we ensured their supporters received a world-class product.
