A Hoodie With a Mission: How Local Laundry and Katimavik Came Together

Some partnerships make sense on paper. This one made sense in every way.

When Katimavik reached out to us about producing their limited-edition fundraising hoodie, we didn't need much convincing. Katimavik has been one of Canada's most impactful youth organizations since 1977, sending young people across the country, placing them in new communities, giving them real responsibilities, and turning that experience into something that shapes them for life. They believe in Canada the same way we do: not as a postcard, but as a living, breathing community worth showing up for.

That's the kind of organization we want to work with.

The Campaign

Katimavik launched their Wear Your Support campaign as a way to bring their community closer while raising funds to keep their programs running. The idea was simple and powerful: supporters could contribute and receive a limited-edition hoodie as a thank you, a wearable piece of the mission. A tax receipt was issued for the eligible portion of each donation, and every contribution went directly toward Katimavik's programs across Canada.

It's a model we believe in deeply. No guesswork, no overproduction, no leftover inventory sitting in a warehouse. Just a product made because people cared enough to ask for it. That's pre-sale fundraising done right, and it's the kind of project that proves apparel can be more than apparel.

The Design

What took this collaboration from great to something truly special was the artist behind the design.

Katimavik partnered with John Rombough, a Chipewyan Dene artist, to create an exclusive reimagining of the Katimavik logo.

The result is something you feel when you look at it, a design that carries the weight of Indigenous heritage and the spirit of a national organization that has always believed in bringing Canadians together across every divide. It wasn't just a graphic. It was a statement about who Katimavik is and what they stand for.

Wearing it meant something. That's rare.

Our Role

Local Laundry handled the production end, manufacturing the hoodies in Canada so Katimavik could stay focused on their mission and their community. That's exactly the role we want to play in partnerships like this. We're not just a supplier. We're the team that makes sure the product lives up to the story behind it, that the quality matches the intention, and that when someone puts it on, it feels like it was made with care. Because it was.

This is the kind of project we built Local Laundry for. A Canadian cause, an Indigenous artist, a community that showed up, and a garment that earned its place in people's closets.

What It Means to Us

We talk a lot about community at Local Laundry, it's woven into everything we do. But projects like this one are the proof. When a national youth organization trusts you to manufacture something that represents their mission, that's not something you take lightly. We're proud of what we made together, and we're proud of what Katimavik does every single day for young Canadians coast to coast.
