THIS WEEK ON THE BLOG WE HEAR FROM NADA, OWNER OF MOTHERMAYI BAKE AND HER JOURNEY CREATING #YUMMUSHUMMUS! KEEP SCROLLING FOR MOTHERMAYI'S GUEST BLOG AND LEARN HOW NADA TURNED HER HOBBY INTO A LIVING.
Hello, my name is Nada and I own MotherMayi Ltd. And I’m one of those people who turned my hobby into a living, which is why I absolutely love my job and always will. Before I tell you more about me, I want to tell you something a little more general; DO WHAT YOU LOVE. Sounds simple, and it is. When you’re passionate about something it frames your mindset for success. So before I begin my story, know that it is all fired and running on passion. That is it.
And now the story begins…
I’m a local Mama, and I make hummus. Yes, hummus. I am proud to say you can purchase my flavorful vegan dips all over YYC and YEG and it keeps growing. It all started in my kitchen. Being a new Mama, I wanted to feed my kids something clean, healthy, and nutritious. So I dug back to my roots and decided on hummus. A quick walk to the grocery store and I shopped the hummus section. I could not find one clean label on the hummus selection offered. The ingredients were loaded with all this extra stuff that I had no idea what it was, all these preservatives to preserve, things I couldn't pronounce and a shelf life of what seemed forever. And after all that maybe there was a bit of hummus in the container. I walked home, right back into my kitchen and made an old fashion batch of homemade hummus. And guess what?
My kids LOVED it. And so did the neighbors, and so did our friends, and so on. People started asking for it. Everyone wanted more. And then my hobby bloomed. My homemade hummus transitioned into MotherMayi and all of a sudden I hit the stores. Give or take a few years, lots of hard work, and endless recipe goes. I was stocked on shelves across grocery stores, markets and more. And the best part is, it sold! It actually sold!
People bought it and loved it as much as I did. Not because it’s a good product, or the clean ingredients, or because it’s local; But because I was passionate about it. I hustled and worked as hard as I could to get it on the shelves, and every single time I walk by my hummus I smile. I'll always find it rewarding to know this name I came up with, with the pencil sketched logo has become officially something. Something real. It is the most satisfying feeling ever. And this is only the beginning.
And then everyone shared some hummus and lived happily ever after. But my story continues; More hummus, more stores, more flavors and a heck of a lot of more chickpeas. That’s how the bean was born. And that’s how the bean grew. And that’s how the bean lives on. I now have three little beans at home. a fourth bean on the way, one big supportive bean who keeps us all in check, and all this in addition to my hummus. I love our bean family and can't wait to see how far we'll go.
