WHY WE MADE THIS: THE LOCALS' ZIP-UP

We’re excited to have launched our second bamboo zip-up garment, this limited edition hoodie is our Locals’ Zip-Up. We aim to give back and build community through everything we do.

The Locals’ Zip-Up not only represents our community building values, but it gives $25 back to USAY [Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth] and celebrates other local businesses in our own backyard with the Locals Prize Pack.

In collaboration with Wild Tea Kombucha, everyone who purchases a Locals’ Zip-Up is automatically entered into winning our Locals Prize Pack. Curated by the team at Wild Tea Kombucha, the Locals Prize Pack is valued at $150 and celebrates while paying homage to the local businesses in our community. Local products in the prize pack include Wild Tea Kombucha, Little Tucker, Drizzle Honey, Five 21 Roasters, Dwarf Stars Chocolate and masks from Hippo Hug.

When we first started working on our next garment, we wanted to launch a piece that encompassed our values but represented how we really are ‘in this together’. Community is the strongest force that unites us together. Even going through COVID19 and feeling the affects and withdrawal from our typical lives, our community united us from behind the screens and really allowed us to feel that we’re not alone, and we are, truly, in this together.

Designed by our intern Francesca, we made the Locals’ Zip-Up as a garment to embody the spirit of our five pillars - representing where you come, sharing stories from the community, collaborating with others, giving back through local charities and producing Canadian made clothing. The Locals’ Zip-Up manifests our mission that we are not in the business of clothing, but we’re in the business of building community through purpose-driven Canadian made clothing.

If you follow us you know we’re big fans of bamboo cotton. When we transitioned to manufacturing all of our garments to Canadian made, we knew we were contributing to a diversified Canadian economy. One of the biggest takeaways and directions we want to push towards is the movement around sustainability. We thought if we came this far - maybe we’d be willing to go a little further. Enter bamboo cotton. The Locals’ Zip-Up is a Canadian made garment (obviously), made of bamboo and organic cotton. Bamboo cotton enables sustainable fashion and aids in preserving the environment. Not only is bamboo a superior fabric in terms of both softness and functionality, but it is inherently moisture-wicking and antimicrobial! Meaning you don’t gotta wash this bad boy every time you wear it. This is the direction we want to take Local Laundry in, more natural and sustainable materials and fibres in our garments.

One of the many benefits of manufacturing entirely here in Canada is that our manufacturing and supply chain hasn’t been affected. All necessary safety precautions have been taken and when you buy a piece of Canadian-made clothing you are not only supporting Canadian small business but you are single-handedly supporting every Canadian small business in their supply chain. Which, in our case, includes many family-owned and operated businesses that are doing their best to keep their employees on staff and support a diversified Canadian economy.

The Locals’ Zip-Up is a limited edition garment that is only available while supplies last. Represent your community values, give back to USAY and enter in for a chance to win $150 of locals products in our Locals Prize Pack, curated by Wild Tea Kombucha!
