WHY WE MADE THIS PART 2 - THE BAMBOO HEALTHCARE ZIP-UP

THANK YOU! WITH THE SUPPORT OF OUR COMMUNITY WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO RAISE MORE THAN $15,000, AND COUNTING, FOR THE UNITED WAY COVID19 RELIEF FUND. YOUR SUPPORT NEVER GOES UNNOTICED AND WE WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO BUILD COMMUNITY AND CREATE AN IMPACT IF IT WASN’T FOR ALL OF YOU!

Without the support of our community, we wouldn’t be able to continue to build communities, create clothing for a cause and contribute efforts to the greater good and the wellbeing of our fellow Albertans. Over the past few weeks, we’ve received an outpouring of support from customers and we wanted to share some of the stories and feedback back the Organic Bamboo Healthcare Garments have rendered. We asked customers of the Organic Bamboo Healthcare Zip-Up and T-shirt to share with us why they purchased an Organic Bamboo Healthcare garment, what the garment(s) means to them and if they could say anything to a healthcare professional, what would they say.

From: JR Ke: “I was looking for a healthcare hoodie that I could wear to work and show I work as a nurse and support local businesses. It means showing support and  togetherness in this as a group we stand in this together. We need to stand together in this long storm we are all about to be in and hopefully come out stronger and more appreciative of everything we took for granted before."

From: Jamie M: This is a great way to show support for the front-line, health care workers and I love the style of it. A reminder of the people who risk their lives doing their jobs, just to take care of those in need. My mother was a registered nurse and I know the sacrifice and toll it can take on them.  There is something special about health care workers in the face of a crisis, they go into action and do what needs to be done to care for others.  For those working during this crisis, I would say thank you and that you are appreciated.”

From: Shaun C: “I work in the hospital as a nurse, and want to help support. Working together to help each other out. It's scary and the unknown is hard but we got this!”

From: Michelle D: “I purchased this hoodie as I work at the Tom Baker as a registered nurse. I love that you are raising funds for the united way as so many people have been impacted by this virus. I have been fortunate that I have my job and it was one small way that I could give back. Calgary is an amazing city and always is there  for those in need. This hoodie shows how amazing this city is :) A few months ago all I was reading in the media was how overpaid we were as nurses. This hoodie makes me feel proud and shows the importance of the healthcare team as a whole. As a healthcare professional this is perhaps one of the most heartbreaking things I have gone through in my 18 years of nursing. There are no visitors allowed in the hospital including at the Tom Baker and so patients who are fighting cancer are alone. Sitting with these incredible souls breaks my heart as many are in their last days and want nothing more than to be with family. However, the support from the community is amazing. Those cheers at 7pm, the siren parades all mean something. We are in this together, as a community. Thank you to you for raising funds for the united way:)”

From Helen M: “ I purchased it for 2 reasons, I have a daughter and daughter in law who are both nurses and a son in law who is a fireman.  Secondly, I want to support local as much as I can, where I can. It means giving back to those who are giving so much during this unpredictable time.   It means giving jobs to the people that are producing the shirts and hoodies. I would THANK YOU. They give so much of themselves, do it with care and compassion. They are quite simply angels."

From Hayden K: “I’m a Health Care Aide Student from Sundre Alberta, and I bought this hoodie because I’ve ALWAYS wanted something from local laundry and I felt it would be great to have a warm, cozy hoodie for those early morning shifts or for while sitting down to chart at the nurses station. But ultimately, the idea of buying a sustainably made product that shows the true spirit of front line workers during these uncertain times while supporting a cause that helps us all, while giving back to the Canadian economy is the gold star from me!

What the organic bamboo healthcare hoodie means to me is that no matter what our role in the health care setting is, it takes not only our skillset to do our jobs, but to do our work from the heart. In the end, we all come together as one huge interdisciplinary team to bring kindness, compassion and health to those we serve.

My message to health care providers and the public is: Keep going! We are stronger together and I’m amazed at our creativity, kindness and resilience during these challenging times. This is a marathon, not a sprint. But we will come out of this stronger, wiser and kinder than ever before. Thank you so much for all you do, and please stay safe!”

From Dione M: "I purchased the hoodie not only because it looked stylish but I wanted to give back. I know some healthcare professionals and I wanted to say thanks not just to the ones I know but to the ones I don’t. By wearing this apparel everyone will know I support healthcare workers and their families!! Without them none of this could be possible. As I said earlier it makes me stand out and stand up to say “thank you” without saying anything. Also thanks to Local Laundry for coming up with this concept. I would have loved to be a doctor but I’m not...so thankful for the opportunity to give back in my own way!

Thank you! Thank you for all the sacrifices that you and your families are going through. This isn’t an easy time and they’ve put on the gear to run into the fire while others are running away!! Standing ovations please!!!"

From Beth G.: "Purchased because the LL team is just so darn awesome supporting front line health care workers. It’s a symbolic recognition of the importance of health care workers, everyday and especially during critical times all the while supporting a charity with a decades long track record of coordinating funding with community needs.

My mom was a nurse and my partner and I have many cousins, aunts and friends who are nurses, doctors, technicians and/or otherwise working in the health care professions. Every night when I speak with my 80 year old mom, who hasn’t left her house in over 2 months, her first concern is always for the nurses and health care professionals. Never herself. In fact, if she could - she would’ve gone to the hospital to help out, herself! I am hoping that by wearing my sweatshirt, people will remember that it’s so important to wear a mask and keep your distance not only for personal health but, to keep our health care professionals, and their families, healthy too."

THANK YOU!

What is organic bamboo?

This zip-up is made from Organic Bamboo Cotton from Rayon. Bamboo does not require fertilizers or pesticides for cultivation and it grows rapidly and profusely without depleting the soil. Bamboo has a lower environmental impact than pesticide-laden conventional cotton and petroleum-derived nylon and polyester fabrics. Bamboo is also a superior fabric in terms of softness and functionality. Bamboo is inherently moisture wicking and anti-bacterial. Basically, bacteria can't stick as easily to this bad boy.

Is the Organic Bamboo Healthcare Zip-Up/T-shirt made in Canada?
Oh, heck YAS it is! Everything we produce is dyed, knitted, cut, sewn, printed right here in Canada adhering to strict Canadian labour and environmental laws. Everyone who produces our garments is paid a living wage with benefits and are integral to supporting a diversified Canadian economy. That's also why this garment is a little more on the pricier side.

Are there any other charities Local Laundry is donating to?
We're always looking to support other Canadian charities, especially during these trying times. If there is another charity or not-for-profit contributing to COVID19 in other cities that we should donate to, please let us know!

If you have any questions or if there is anything else we can do to support front line healthcare workers during this time, please feel free to reach out and email info@locallaundry.ca. If anyone wants to share the Organic Bamboo Healthcare Zip-Up/T-shirt with colleagues, friends, and family, here is a direct link to the sweater!

Stay safe fam,
