What Brands are Manufactured in Canada? The Surprising Lowdown

Ever found yourself deep in a Google search, trying to find brands that aren’t just waving the Canadian flag but are truly Canadian at heart? Well, you might be a tad surprised. The reality? There aren't as many as we'd like. Actually, not nearly enough.Made

The "Designed in Canada" Curveball

Before we dive in, let's clear the runway on this: "Designed in Canada" is a term you’ve probably seen draped on many labels. It’s sleek, it’s chic, and it gives off a warm and fuzzy Canadian vibe. That tag can be a tad misleading. It might whisper the idea was conceived here, but the nuts and bolts? Probably elsewhere. And while the design is essential, true love for Canadian manufacturing shines when a brand goes from thread to finished product right here at home.

Flying the True North Flag with Pride

Now, onto the stars of our show: brands that are truly manufactured in Canada! Here's a spotlight on one Canadian made brand, with a nod to our own journey at Local Laundry:

Local Laundry: Yup, that’s us! We’re not just in the game; we’re playing for the home team. With every piece of apparel we craft, our goal is to support Canadian communities, reduce our carbon footprint, and celebrate the unmatched quality that Canadian manufacturing offers.

Ironically, it may actually be a little un-Canadian of us to steal some spotlight for ourselves. But when you’re going against the grain and choosing to do the responsible thing by manufacturing all of your products in Canada, it’s worth taking the time to proudly scream it from the Rocky Mountain-tops.

You see, prior to 1989 over 70% of all clothing bought and sold in Canada was actually made in Canada. That retro/vintage stuff you find in your parents or grandparents closets - most of it was made here. Fast forward to 2015 and that number is less than 5%

Why All This Matters

It's not just about stitching fabric. It's about stitching communities together, preserving our environment, and taking pride in a product that's Canadian from conception to creation. When a brand opts to manufacture in Canada, it supports local jobs, prioritizes eco-friendly practices, and contributes to a brighter, more sustainable future for all of us.

While the Canadian fashion landscape might not be as crowded as we'd wish, every brand that chooses to manufacture here is making a powerful statement. They’re champions of the local, believers in sustainability, and true patriots of Canadian quality. So next time you're shopping, take a moment to check the label, and tip your hat to those making a real Canadian difference!

Keep it stylish and keep it Canadian, folks!
