Feelin’ the Love for YYC Mamas and Kiddos

Hey YYC! We're super excited to bring to you a collaboration blog with our newest friend at Dragonfly Maternity, Cher Compton and a community of amazing mamas and babies. We had such a blast getting to know Cher's story and spend the afternoon meeting new influencers in the neighbourhood. To read more about our experience and learn all about Dragonfly Maternity keep on scrolling!

Let's dive into it!

Community. CALMunity. CommUNITY. The phrase can take on many shapes and forms. To me, most of all, it means human connection and interactivity. My heart is happy when I get to connect with others.

One of my favourite quotes – “We rise by lifting others.” – Robert Ingersoll

Those that know me well know that those are words I live by. I’ve been blessed to meet so many amazing people on this journey of life. And when you get connected with “your people”, you just know. You know things will work out. You know you’re on the right path. You know you’re working in harmony with the Universe. You know you’re building CALM-UNITY.

That’s why I was thrilled about the collaboration between fellow YYC small businesses Local Laundry, Visual Hues Photography, and my company, Dragonfly Maternity. Inviting several local mamas and kids to come out for a fun photoshoot with us proved to be a blast!

When I heard about the story behind Local Laundry, I knew I wanted to work with them on a collab; and when I learned they were launching an infant and kids line of clothing, I knew the timing was serendipitous.  Bringing together moms, mamas-to-be and kids, we provided various pieces from our collections – Local Laundry’s shirts and hats for everyone, with Dragonfly Maternity’s pants and skirts for the pregnant women.

All of the fun took place at the beautiful YogaVentures studio in the lovely SW neighborhood of Marda Loop where Dragonfly Maternity currently operates -- selling gently-used maternity & nursing clothes, and running Prenatal, Mom & Baby, and Kids yoga classes. Janet Pliszka, the talented woman behind the camera of Visual Hues Photography, did an amazing job capturing all of the laughter and smiles amongst everyone.

The philosophies behind Local Laundry and Dragonfly Maternity alike: create a sense of community, support local causes, and make amazing relationships along the way. I love seeing the ways in which Local Laundry is embracing the pride felt in our country, our city, and our individual neighborhoods to create stronger circles of support. And likewise, through affordable clothing, fitness classes, and a variety of resources, Dragonfly Maternity is building a community where moms can connect and families can bond while supporting fellow entrepreneurs in YYC.

I look forward to continuing to build this community with amazing locals in YYC! Want to chat? Drop me a note at cher@dragonflymaternity.ca or connect on Facebook and Instagram @DragonflyMaternity
