Let's Get Involved!

Hayhay YYC and welcome to tonight's blog! Tonight we will be showcasing the amazing charities we've donated to over the course of the last few months and the impact these charities and causes make within our great city. Let's get into it, so please read and enjoy :)

OneWalk

Ok so here we go, first we'll start things off with OneWalk to conquer cancer. OneWalk is an organization that helps fund the research to cure all types of cancers. The funds that OneWalk will raise support clinical trials, breakthrough research, enhanced care and discovery of new cancer therapies.  Teams will be walking in the 25km event in Calgary on June 24th, 2017. Each walker in the OneWalk event is required to raise $1500.00 for their chosen cancer research in order to participate. Our donation, a piece of Local Laundry merchandise was sold in the silent auction portion of the OneWalk event. 100% of the proceeds from donations and fundraising go towards cancer research.

Branch Out Neurological Foundation

The next event on our list of donations went to the Better Halves event for the Calgary Flames. Proceeds from this event went directly to MS research through the Branch Out Neurological Foundation. The Branch Out Neurological Foundation exists to help mitigate and eliminate the 600+ diseases of the nervous system that affect nearly 20% of the world's population! We’re doing it with an open mind by "branching out" to fund a new field of research we've dubbed neuroCAM (neuroscience + complementary and alternative modalities).

Speed Skating Alumni Race

Next we had the honour of helping out with donating to the Speed Skating Alumni Race. The Speed Skating Alumni Race invites past alumni including past Olympians and National team members to be a part of the challenge. As part of the event a raffle was included to raise additional funds. We were excited to be able to donate a piece of Local Laundry gear to amp up the event!

Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association

We donated to the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association's Gala. The gala aims to raise funds for the Calgary Drug Treatment Court (CDTC), a local non-profit program that integrates court intervention and treatment services to help participants return to family, work, and community. The CDTC is an amazing community program that provides a "pre-sentence justice alternative". Rather than cycle drug addicted offenders in and out of court/jail/etc, CDTC aims to resolve the underlying issues so that offenders can work towards a more positive and productive lifestyle. We had the privilege in donating a piece of Local Laundry gear to the silent auction portion of the event!

PALS Beats & Brunch event

Next we were able to donate to the silent auction for the PALS Beats & Brunch event, which happening THIS Saturday, April 22nd! PALS (Pet Access League Society) Calgary is a non profit organization in Calgary, who provides therapy in the form of animals. PALS has over 65 placements all over Calgary, with three main programs their pet visitation program that goes to centres all over Calgary (Autism Society, all major hospitals, the Centre for Young Offenders, Ronald McDonald House). Along with their regular programs, PALS provides about 30 special one time visits a month to centres or organizations that have requested a visit.

Funds from the Beats & Brunch event (a hip hop brunch) will go towards the costs to screen over 150 new volunteers and their dogs this April, as well as to fund special visits, especially for children and trauma centres!

Golden Bears and Pandas Swim Team

The next fundraiser we are donating to is to the Golden Bears and Pandas Swim Teams. The Golden Bears and Pandas Swim Teams putting on their annual fundraiser event to raise funds for the swim team’s alumni associations. We were thrilled to be included and donate to an awesome fundraiser.

Oneball

Lastly we'll be donating to Oneball. Oneball aims to raise awareness of Testicular Cancer, fund critical testicular cancer research, promote early diagnosis and provide meaningful assistance to patients one ball at a time. Oneball also believes that Cancer is not just a disease, it's a community. We'll be donating a piece of Local Laundry gear to Oneball's comedy night at Yuk Yuks in on April 26th!

We are honoured and thrilled to be able to take part and contribute over $350 in Local Laundry gear to these amazing events, fundraisers and charities throughout the past few months. We'll continue donating 10% of our monthly profits and giving back into the the community. We love supporting local charities in any way we can!
