July 2016 Laundry Folding - Accessible Calgary and the R.A.D. Program

An estimated 7% of Calgarians live with limited mobility, yet fewer than 1% of homes in Calgary are accessible. Most individuals with physical disabilities or mobility issues live in inaccessible and unsafe environments, placing them at high risk for physical injury, social isolation, and homelessness.  Did you know that by 2019 nearly 200,000 Calgarians over the age of 15 will be living with a disability and there are only 330 housing units that are both accessible and affordable? That's something we'd like to change. For the month of July we have decided to give our pledged 10% of total profits to Accessible Housing of Calgary to help those living with disabilities live better and easier. We couldn't think of a...

Lululemon Collaboration & KidsUpFront

For the Calgary Scotiabank Marathon we partnered we Lululemon Athletica to create a unique YYC Run shirt in a limited edition for the runners. Fort McMurray Forest Fire Support

During the Fort McMurray Forest fire in May we decided that for 1 day we would donate 100% of our profits to the Canadian Red Cross for disaster relief. We raised closed to $1000 in just one day! We knew that people would want to support the long term relief efforts as well so we created a YMM shirt just for that reason, where 100% of profits will go to a variety of local charities for the long term relief effort. 100% of profits. For ever. To continue to support YMM and its long term relief you can purchase an item from our YMM Collection.  For suggestions on how Local Laundry can help build community or support and volunteer at...

The Calgary Food Bank

The Calgary Food Bank In honour of our 200th item sold we took to our customers on where we should donate to next. The majority of our customers voted to donate to the Calgary Food Bank. We reached out to this amazing community owned organization and asked what was the type of food they were in need of the most. They got back to us right away and reported that pasta, macaroni & cheese and pop-top soup was in the highest demand for their emergency hampers.  We hit the stores and bought as much of this type of food as we possibly could for $100. We ended up buying: 12 cans of pop-top soups 20 packets of instant noodles 30...
