Brought to the public by popular demand, we originally created this sweater for PICU and NICU nurses at the Children's Hospital to showcase all the love and care that goes into their day-to-day work. Since then, customers from across Canada and the US have been purchasing our Healthcare bamboo zip-up for themselves, and their loved one's who have been tirelessly battling COVID on the frontlines.

We wanted to make a zip-up hoodie because a zip-up is the most practical sweater for frontline professional healthcare workers. These hoodies are made with an organic cotton and bamboo fabric blend, making it one of the softest and most comfortable hoodies you will own.

What have Healthcare Heroes said?

From: JR Ke: “I was looking for a healthcare hoodie that I could wear to work and show I work as a nurse and support local businesses. It means showing support and  togetherness in this as a group we stand in this together. We need to stand together in this long storm we are all about to be in and hopefully come out stronger and more appreciative of everything we took for granted before."

From: Jamie M: This is a great way to show support for the front-line, health care workers and I love the style of it. A reminder of the people who risk their lives doing their jobs, just to take care of those in need. My mother was a registered nurse and I know the sacrifice and toll it can take on them.  There is something special about health care workers in the face of a crisis, they go into action and do what needs to be done to care for others.  For those working during this crisis, I would say thank you and that you are appreciated.”

From: Michelle D: “I purchased this hoodie as I work at the Tom Baker as a registered nurse. I love that you are raising funds for the united way as so many people have been impacted by this virus. I have been fortunate that I have my job and it was one small way that I could give back. Calgary is an amazing city and always is there  for those in need. This hoodie shows how amazing this city is :) A few months ago all I was reading in the media was how overpaid we were as nurses. This hoodie makes me feel proud and shows the importance of the healthcare team as a whole. As a healthcare professional this is perhaps one of the most heartbreaking things I have gone through in my 18 years of nursing. There are no visitors allowed in the hospital including at the Tom Baker and so patients who are fighting cancer are alone. Sitting with these incredible souls breaks my heart as many are in their last days and want nothing more than to be with family. However, the support from the community is amazing. Those cheers at 7pm, the siren parades all mean something. We are in this together, as a community. Thank you to you for raising funds for the united way:)”

From Helen M: “ I purchased it for 2 reasons, I have a daughter and daughter in law who are both nurses and a son in law who is a fireman.  Secondly, I want to support local as much as I can, where I can. It means giving back to those who are giving so much during this unpredictable time.   It means giving jobs to the people that are producing the shirts and hoodies. I would THANK YOU. They give so much of themselves, do it with care and compassion. They are quite simply angels."

From Hayden K: “I’m a Health Care Aide Student from Sundre Alberta, and I bought this hoodie because I’ve ALWAYS wanted something from local laundry and I felt it would be great to have a warm, cozy hoodie for those early morning shifts or for while sitting down to chart at the nurses station. But ultimately, the idea of buying a sustainably made product that shows the true spirit of front line workers during these uncertain times while supporting a cause that helps us all, while giving back to the Canadian economy is the gold star from me!"

From Dione M: "I purchased the hoodie not only because it looked stylish but I wanted to give back. I know some healthcare professionals and I wanted to say thanks not just to the ones I know but to the ones I don’t. By wearing this apparel everyone will know I support healthcare workers and their families!! Without them none of this could be possible. As I said earlier it makes me stand out and stand up to say “thank you” without saying anything. Also thanks to Local Laundry for coming up with this concept. I would have loved to be a doctor but I’m not...so thankful for the opportunity to give back in my own way!"

We could make our clothing cheaper.

But then we would need to replace our premium fabrics with material that's milled and dyed overseas using toxic chemicals, utilize factories that subject their workers to unsafe working conditions and below poverty wages, and ultimately produce a product that would only last a few wears before ending up in the landfill.

We're not interested in making cheaper clothing. It's not good for you, for the workers involved in the process, or for our planet.

Instead, we choose to make our all of our products responsibly here in Canada, adhering to strict labour and environmental regulations using high quality fabrics and materials all while giving back to community. This results in a higher quality product that is built to last years, instead of months, all while contributing to a better community, and a better planet.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit our nation, we knew we needed to step up in a big way to support our community. Facing an uncertain future ourselves, we made the decision to launch our Healthcare Zip-up Hoodies, with 100% of profits going to support COVID relief efforts.

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, we raised over $20,000 for the United Way and their COVID-19 Community Response Fund.

This garment is made from our premium bamboo blend.

We like the environment, even more than we like newly released garments. The latter shouldn't have to comprise the first. In addition to environmental protection steps we've taken in exclusively manufacturing in Canada, we also carbon offset every order placed online. It's the very least we can do to thank you for shopping online with us.

We're proud to offset thousands of kilograms of CO2 each year.

    MADE TO LAST

When you invest in garments made here at home, you’re investing in quality. From high performance fabrics to tailored fits, these aren’t your average volunteer t-shirts that get worn  once then disintegrate in the wash.

    EMPLOYING OUR NEIGHBOURS

Choosing Canadian is choosing jobs for your family, friends and neighbours. Jobs that pay a  liveable wage—plus health benefits—and keep our national unemployment rate low and  Canadians happy and healthy.

    FIGHTING FOR THE GREAT OUTDOORS

If you’re anything like us, you like to enjoy the great outdoors, whether it’s the Rockies, our  prairies or coasts. Shopping Canadian reduces our environmental footprint and keeps Canada  green for generations to come.

Is YYC Collection being phased out?

The YYC hoodie that I purchased is a present and as a result has not yet been worn. I have tried to find other YYC clothing however this has been frustrating as most of the items that I checked have very limited sizes available. Is this because the YYC collection is being phased out?

    Awesome hoodie!

For all that healthcare workers do, day in and day out, I thank you. This hoodie was proudly worn to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre on several occasions and I even had a few people ask me where I got it from. Thanks to the team at Local Laundry for creating this hoodie.

    Amazing support for Ukraine

Big thank you to Local Laundry for showing their support for a most worthy cause. The war rages on in Ukraine and I feel good wearing this hoodie, knowing that humanitarian efforts are and should be continuing.
As for the hoodie itself…amazingly soft and comfortable. I purchased a size much too big for me but the cozy and amazingly soft fabric makes it awesome to wear.

    Our Story

    Making our laundry local

It all started when our founder, Connor, picked a fight with a laundry machine. He lost the fight, but had an a-ha moment in the scuffle: What if all of our laundry was local? Like really, truly local? And from the ashes of that fight, Local Laundry rose. Today, we’re headquartered in Calgary and proudly Canadian, from our manufacturers and garments to our employees and customers. But the clothes are just the beginning: Our community is the heart of our story.
