MADE IN CANADA CALGARY PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION SNAPBACK

WE’RE THRILLED TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH THE CALGARY PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION AGAIN!

JUST IN TIME FOR SUMMER WE'VE LAUNCHED OUR COLLABORATION SNAPBACKS WITH THE CALGARY PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION! READ MORE ABOUT OUR COLLABORATION WITH THE CALGARY PUBLIC LIBRARY AND HOW THE LIBRARY IS CONTINUING TO SUPPORT THEIR COMMUNITY FROM BEHIND THE SCREEN!

Back in 2018, we were fortunate enough to design a collaboration crewneck with Local Laundry featuring a reimagination of the Calgary Public Library’s logo as a heart. At the time, eagerly anticipating the opening of the new Central Library, we imagined this logo quite literally - the new building would be the heart of the Library system in Calgary. Over time, it has come to represent so much more - especially as the city comes together to get through this difficult time.

In hard times, it is inspiring to see how much our Library means to the community. What public libraries provide is nothing short of magical - a nurturing environment for life-long learners where the only limit to what you can create is your own imagination. It was painful to see the doors to our libraries close on March 16. Fortunately, the Library quickly adapted to help us stay connected.

Since closure, the Library has registered more than 5,000 new members and seen a 56% increase in digital circulation compared with April 2019. To keep up with passionate bookworms, the Library invested immediately in its e-resources to free up more copies of popular titles, as well as launching innovative online services such as Library at Home with video programs and recorded storytimes.

The Library’s efforts to support our community haven’t only been online - last month, 300 Chromebook laptops were distributed to the newcomer community, bridging the digital divide to ensure that families without access to technology could connect with work, school and their loved ones.

Here at the Calgary Public Library Foundation, we have had to cease our Library Store operations, a social enterprise initiative that supports enhanced Library programs, services and collections. We are so thankful to Local Laundry for stepping up to sell our new collaboration Library Hats on their website, with all proceeds supporting the Library Foundation’s Resiliency Fund. This fund will support the evolving needs of Calgarians as Library’s reopen.

Your purchase will support a huge initiative of the Library this year - the removal of late fines from Library materials. This move means that more than 53,000 Calgarians who previously had blocked cards can now check out books from the Library. Removing fines now will ensure that all the work we do going forward reaches even more Calgarians and has greater impact.

Thank you so much for supporting us through our collaboration with Local Laundry and we look forward to seeing lots of these hats with hearts out in the community this summer - from a safe social distance, of course!

The Calgary Public Library Foundation empowers people to make a difference in their community. All donations cultivate innovation and bring the Library to those who need it most. Your purchase of our new collaboration hat with Local Laundry will support the Library Foundation’s Resiliency Fund, helping the Library to meet the evolving needs of Calgarians when our locations reopen. The custom-designed heart graphic is a reimagination of the Library's logo and has come to represent the community spirit that brings us together, even when we have to stay apart. To make an additional donation to support the Calgary Public Library and to learn more about the Resiliency Fund, please click here.
